Bike Insurance Buyer's Guide for Pakistan
Everything Pakistani riders need to know before buying insurance
Is bike insurance mandatory?
Third party insurance is legally required under the Motor Vehicles Act in Pakistan, although enforcement is irregular. Having it protects you legally if you injure someone or damage their property in an accident.
How much does it actually cost?
Third party insurance typically starts around PKR 2,500 to 4,000 per year for a 70cc bike. Comprehensive can range from PKR 5,000 to 20,000 or more depending on bike value, age and location. Use the calculator to estimate yours.
What documents do you need?
- Copy of your original CNIC
- Copy of the registration book
- Photos of the bike from all four sides
- Engine and chassis number photos
What is usually NOT covered?
- Riding without a valid license
- Mechanical breakdown and normal wear
- Accidents while under the influence
- Racing or off road use
- Modifications not declared to the insurer
Tips to reduce your premium
- Build a no claim record, up to 50 percent off after 5 years
- Install a tracker or anti theft device
- Pay annually rather than monthly
- Compare at least three companies before buying
- Insure at market value, not dealer price
How to file a claim
- 1.Call your insurer immediately after the incident
- 2.File an FIR at the nearest police station
- 3.Take photos of the damage before moving the bike
- 4.Submit the claim form, FIR and photos to the insurer
- 5.Wait for the surveyor visit, never repair before the survey
