Pakistan Just Had Its Best Motorcycle Year on Record. The Real Story Is Which Bikes Sold.
Pakistan's two and three wheeler industry closed its 2025-26 financial year at just under 2 million units sold, the highest total in the market's history, ahead of the previous record set back in FY21. Atlas Honda kept its lead at the top. On the surface that sounds like a normal, healthy market getting bigger.
Look at what grew inside that total and the picture changes. The overall market grew a strong 33 percent year on year in the first quarter of 2026 alone. Electric two-wheelers, on their own, grew faster than that, and some individual electric brands more than tripled or quadrupled their sales over the same period. Petrol bikes are still the overwhelming majority of what is sold in Pakistan today. But the growth is not happening evenly, and if you are deciding what to buy next, that difference matters more than the headline record.
Why Electric Is Suddenly the Fastest Growing Part of the Market
Two things happened at roughly the same time, and together they changed the maths for an ordinary buyer.
First, petrol got expensive enough that the running cost gap became impossible to ignore. Electric two-wheeler sales in Pakistan had already been climbing since 2023, but once petrol pushed well past PKR 350 a litre, the monthly saving from charging instead of filling up stopped being a rounding error and became real money. Reported early on, the PAVE launch drew over 270,000 applications within days, which tells you how much pent-up demand was sitting there waiting for the price gap to close.

What an Electric Bike Actually Costs Versus a Petrol One
The comparison most buyers actually want to make is straightforward. A basic electric commuter with a lead-acid or dry-gel battery, roughly 60 to 80 km of range per charge, generally lists somewhere in the PKR 150,000 to 220,000 range before any subsidy. That overlaps directly with the Honda CD 70, still Pakistan's best selling single model, at PKR 159,900.
Where the electric bike pulls ahead is the running cost, not the sticker price. Charging costs a fraction of what filling a tank does at current petrol prices. Over a year of daily commuting, that gap can be substantial, and it grows every time petrol prices rise. What it does not solve is charging access if you live somewhere with unreliable electricity, or a long single trip where you cannot recharge partway through. If you mostly ride short, predictable city distances and can charge at home or work, an electric bike from an established brand with a real local service network is now a genuinely competitive option, not a novelty purchase. Stick to brands with more than one service centre in your city.

Yamaha's Exit Is the Other Half of This Story
It is worth holding two facts in your head at once. Pakistan's motorcycle market just posted its best year ever. And in the middle of that record, Yamaha ended all local motorcycle manufacturing in the country in late 2025, discontinuing the YBR 125, YBR 125G and YB 125Z at once. The company has said parts and service continue through existing dealers, but no new units are being built here.
That is not a contradiction. It is the same underlying shift showing up twice. Buyers are increasingly choosing between ultra affordable local petrol commuters and now-competitive electric alternatives, and a mid priced imported petrol brand got squeezed out of that gap. Expect more of this kind of repositioning as the electric segment keeps growing.
