Three Price Rises in One Year, and Nobody Added Them Up
If your bike feels more expensive to keep on the road than it did last year, you are not imagining it. Three separate things have gone up, and because they arrived at different times, most riders have felt each one individually without ever seeing the combined figure.
So we worked it out. The number is bigger than most people expect.
What Actually Changed
1. Petrol went up again
On 17 August the Petroleum Division announced revised rates effective from 18 August. Petrol moved from Rs 325.43 to Rs 331.20 per litre, an increase of Rs 5.77. High speed diesel went to Rs 390.42.
On its own that is a modest rise, roughly 1.8 percent. It is the direction that matters, because this follows a long run of increases rather than sitting on its own.
2. Engine oil jumped, and this one is severe
In early August, lubricant prices across Pakistan rose sharply. Dealers pointed to higher international crude prices and tensions in the Middle East feeding into base oil costs.

A 31 percent jump on the standard motorcycle oil can is far steeper than the petrol rise, and it hits every single service.
3. Bike prices rose in the budget
The 2026 to 2027 federal budget brought tax changes that pushed petrol motorcycle prices up from July, with reported increases running as high as Rs 16,000 depending on the model. Entry level commuters were expected to rise by at least around Rs 3,100.
This one only affects you if you are buying. The first two hit every rider, every month.
The Real Number: What a Year of Riding Now Costs
Here is a realistic commuter: 40 kilometres a day, which works out to about 1,200 kilometres a month. Oil changed every 1,500 kilometres, so roughly ten changes a year.

Read that again
A Honda CD 70 costs Rs 159,900 to buy. Running it for one year now costs Rs 103,886. In other words, you spend roughly two thirds of the purchase price every single year just keeping it moving, before a single repair.
How Much Did This Month Alone Add?
Isolating just the two recent rises, petrol and oil, for that same CD 70 rider:

Rs 305 a month sounds small. Over a year it is nearly four thousand rupees, and that is on top of an already large bill. For a delivery rider covering three or four times that distance, multiply accordingly.
What You Can Actually Do About It
You cannot control the pump price. These four things you can control, and together they matter more than most riders assume.
Do not skip the oil change to save money
This is the most tempting response to a 31 percent oil price rise and the most expensive mistake. Running old oil accelerates engine wear, and an engine rebuild costs between Rs 15,000 and Rs 40,000. You would be risking that to save Rs 850. Change it on schedule.
Buy oil in the larger bottle if you can
At Rs 850 per litre in a can versus Rs 4,500 for three litres, the bottle works out at Rs 1,500 per litre for a bike needing roughly 800ml to a litre per change. For most single bike owners the can is still correct. If your household runs two or three bikes, the larger bottle changes the maths.
Tyre pressure is free money
Underinflated tyres are one of the most common and most ignored causes of poor mileage in Pakistan. Checking pressure weekly costs nothing and protects the fuel figures above. If your real world mileage has dropped noticeably, check this before blaming the fuel.
Chain tension and air filter
A loose or dry chain and a clogged air filter both hurt fuel consumption directly. Both are cheap to sort and both are routinely neglected. A worn chain set costs around Rs 2,500 to 4,000 to replace, and running one for too long damages the sprockets as well.
Does Electric Change the Answer?
With petrol above Rs 330 the arithmetic has shifted a long way. An electric bike covering the same 1,200 kilometres a month uses roughly 30 units of electricity, which at typical residential tariffs runs somewhere near Rs 1,650 a month, against about Rs 7,949 for a CD 70.
That is a large gap, and it explains why electric two wheeler sales in Pakistan rose 173 percent in the first half of 2026. But it is not the whole picture. Battery replacement runs Rs 60,000 to 90,000 every three to five years, charging depends on your load shedding situation, and with roughly 84 electric brands now competing, many will not survive long enough to sell you a replacement battery.
Electric makes clear financial sense for high mileage riders in areas with stable electricity. For someone riding a few hundred kilometres a month, the case is far weaker.
The Wider Picture
Motorcycles remain the most affordable way for a Pakistani household to get around, and nothing here changes that. A car costs several times more to buy and to run.
What has changed is that the running cost is no longer a rounding error. When keeping a 70cc commuter on the road costs more than a hundred thousand rupees a year, it deserves to be budgeted properly rather than absorbed quietly out of daily cash.
If you are about to buy, the same logic applies. The showroom price is one number. The five year cost of ownership is a very different one, and it is the one that actually determines whether you can afford the bike.
