Why Everyone Is Modifying Their CD 70
Scroll through TikTok or Instagram for a minute and you'll see it: modified Honda CD 70s everywhere. Matte black builds, Japanese-style clean looks, fat tyres, alloy rims and LED headlights. The Honda CD 70 is Pakistan's most common bike, which is exactly why riders want theirs to look different from the thousands parked next to it.
The good news: the CD 70 is one of the easiest bikes in the world to modify. Parts are cheap, every mechanic knows it, and almost everything bolts on. The bad news: some of the most popular mods (loud silencers, pressure horns, fancy plates) now get you a Rs 2,000 fine or an impounded bike under Punjab's 2026 rules.
This guide gives you 12 CD 70 modification ideas that are legal, look good and keep your resale value, plus the ones to stay away from.

12 Legal CD 70 Modification Ideas
1. Better tyres (the best first mod)
Stock CD 70 tyres are thin and slip on wet roads. A slightly wider, good-grip tyre in a size your rim accepts makes the bike feel more planted and stops better. Ask the shop to keep the size sensible: too wide rubs the frame and hurts fuel average. Browse tyres and tubes.
2. Alloy rims
Alloy rims are the single biggest visual change you can make to a CD 70, and they also end spoke tightening and allow tubeless tyres, so a puncture doesn't leave you stranded. Choose a trusted brand and have them fitted and balanced by a proper shop.
3. Comfort seat
The stock seat gets hard on long commutes. A re-foamed seat or a ready-made comfort seat cover is cheap and completely legal. Look in seats and foam.
4. LED headlight, properly aimed
The stock CD 70 headlight is weak. A quality LED or brighter halogen bulb that fits the stock housing improves night riding a lot. Keep it white and aim it slightly down. Ultra-bright, blue-tinted or flashing lights blind oncoming riders and are finable. See lights and electricals.
5. LED indicators
Slim LED indicators give the bike a modern look. Keep them amber, and fit a proper flasher relay so they don't blink too fast.
6. The black edition look
The most viral CD 70 build right now: matte or gloss black body, blacked-out rims and minimal stickers. It looks premium and costs far less than people think. One important point: a full colour change that doesn't match your registration papers can cause trouble at checkpoints and when you sell, so stay close to your registered colour or update the record.
7. Tank pad and decals
The cheapest personal touch. A rubber tank pad protects the paint from your belt and keys, and tasteful decals make the bike yours. Just keep them off the number plate.
8. Better mirrors and grips
Wider mirrors show more of the road behind you, and soft grips reduce vibration in your hands on long rides. Find them under mirrors and indicators and handlebar and controls.
9. Crash guard
A crash guard protects the engine and your legs if the bike falls. Pick a simple, solid one. Oversized chrome guards add weight and look dated.
10. Phone mount and USB charger
Essential for delivery and ride-hailing riders. Use a mount with a firm clamp, and get the charger wired with a fuse so it doesn't drain or damage your battery.
11. Rear carrier
A strong rear carrier turns the CD 70 into a proper workhorse for groceries, parcels or a delivery box. Make sure it is bolted to the frame, not just the grab rail.
12. Better shock absorbers
Upgraded rear shocks make broken roads much less painful. Buy from a known brand and keep the stock height, so handling and ground clearance stay the same. See suspension and shocks.
Mods to Avoid: These Get You Fined
| Modification | Risk |
|---|---|
| Loud or open silencer ("patakha" sound) | Fine and impounding during crackdowns |
| Fancy or calligraphy number plate | Rs 2,000 fine in Punjab, seizure for repeat offences |
| Pressure or musical horn | Rs 2,000 fine in Punjab |
| Blue, red or flashing lights | Fine, and they imitate official vehicles |
| Removing mirrors or mudguards | Fine and less safe |
| Engine bore-up or frame cutting | Bike no longer matches its papers, problems when selling |

Keep every stock part
Store your original silencer, lights, mirrors and seat. The CD 70 has the best resale value in Pakistan because buyers trust a clean, stock bike. When you sell, you can put the stock parts back, or include them with the bike, and get a much better price.
What About a Self Start or Disc Brake Conversion?
These are the two most searched CD 70 upgrades, because the bike still has no self start and drum brakes even on the 2027 model.
- Self start kit: possible, but it needs a starter motor, a bigger battery and rewiring. Get it done only by an experienced electrician, or the bike can develop starting and battery problems.
- Front disc brake: usually means swapping the front fork and wheel hub from another bike. It can improve braking, but a poor job is dangerous. Use a trusted workshop and genuine parts.
If you really want self start and a disc brake, it is often smarter to sell your CD 70 and move up to a bike that has them from the factory. Compare the cost in our 70cc vs 125cc guide, or look at the Honda CG 125 Self.
Smart Order to Modify Your CD 70
- Safety first: tyres, brakes service, headlight.
- Comfort next: seat, grips, shocks.
- Practical: phone mount, carrier, crash guard.
- Looks last: alloy rims, black look, decals, LED indicators.
Before any mod, make sure the basics are healthy. A modified bike with a dry chain and old oil still rides badly. Our 10 bike maintenance tips cover what to check.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the best CD 70 modifications?
The best value mods are better tyres, a comfort seat, a properly aimed LED headlight, alloy rims, better mirrors and grips, and a crash guard. They improve safety, comfort and looks without breaking traffic rules.
Is a modified silencer legal on a CD 70?
No. Loud or open silencers are treated as a public nuisance. Police fine riders and impound bikes during crackdowns until the stock silencer is refitted.
Can I install a self start in a CD 70?
Yes, with a self start conversion kit, a starter motor, a stronger battery and new wiring. Have it done by an experienced auto electrician to avoid starting and battery problems.
Can I put alloy rims on a CD 70?
Yes. Alloy rims are legal and one of the most popular CD 70 mods. They also allow tubeless tyres. Get them fitted and balanced by a proper shop.
Do modifications reduce CD 70 resale value?
Heavy or loud mods usually reduce resale value, because most buyers want a stock CD 70. Tasteful, reversible mods with the stock parts kept are fine.
Can I change my CD 70's colour?
Small styling changes are fine. A full colour change that no longer matches the registration papers can cause problems at checkpoints and when selling, so update the record or stay close to the original colour.
Fine amounts are from Punjab's revised schedule effective March 2026. Other provinces set their own rules. Always use a qualified mechanic for electrical and brake work.
